Hi there, welcome to Kaapio Acres! We are are so happy you are here!" Let me introduce you to the folks here. I, Deena and my husband Ward Sansone and Roberta and Roscoe Creed are the owners here at Kaapio Acres. We are located in Leroy, Michigan, which is a few minutes away from Cadillac and Traverse City. The farm is nestled in the scenic hills of north western Michigan.

We would like to share some facts about us that we hope you will find interesting. There are two questions that we are asked frequently, "Why Kaapio?" and "What does it mean?" Our farm was named in memory of our heritage, some of our family members came from Finland. Kaapio is the finnish word for Dwarf.

Kaapio Acre's was established in 1995, although we started raising miniature goats in 1994. We had decided that with ten acres, we had plenty of room to share. In came our extended family, a couple of Nigerian Dwarf dairy goat kids and a couple of Pygmy kids. Within the first year we had formed a love for the Nigerian Dwarf, and knew that this was the breed for us. So we found good homes for our Pygmys and proceeded to work with the Nigerian Dwarf, learning all we could about them. Twelve years and many nigerians later,  Roberta and Roscoe came on board establishing Kaapio Acres North. For three years we enjoyed the liberty of having two farms and we were able to extend the nigerian population, so we could improve our breeding program. Three years later, due to unforeseen circumstances, we found that we had to reduce the herd back to one farm. So now, Kaapio Acres has moved up to Leroy.

We have come a long way since we first started breeding Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats. We have accomplished much over the years....

Parsley and Scarlet have earned their permanent Champion titles in ADGA, AGS and NDGA. To our knowledge, they among a very few Nigerian does to accomplish this. Parsley has recently won her first National title in 2007. Red Butt'er won his National title in 2003 and Callilily took a National Reserve Champion title home with her in 2007. We have several animals with either Champion, (ADGA), Master Champion,(AGS) and/or Permanent Grand Champion, (NDGA), titles. Black Pearl won Best Jr Doe in Show in 2008 at an ADGA sanctioned show. Quite an accomplishment considering she was competing against the full sized dairy goats. Our animals have also won many Grand Champion and Reserve Champion rosettes along with Best Udder awards at the shows. We've placed three does 1st, 3rd and 5th in Michigan's 2002 DHI Awards and Moondancer placed well in the "2002 American Goat Society's Top Ten". Our achievements on DHI and in the show ring have really made us proud of our animals.

There are always new and exciting things happening here at Kaapio Acres!

****News Update!!!****

It's a sad day here at Kaapio Acres, our lovely Moondancer has left us. At almost 16 years old, she decided it was time to move on to greener pastures. She gave us many years of wonderful memories and we will miss her tremendously!
